Eco Hedonism A/W 2012

So, I'm back at uni after a longgggg five month break and I've been given a brief I'm SO excited about!
It involves a hell of a lot of trend research, so I've ventured in to WGSN to see what delights they have to offer.

My favourite trend for A/W 2012 is Eco Hedonism. Hedonism meaning that pleasure is the only intrinsic good
The trend features rough edges with a contrast of beautiful embellishments.

Emma Watson, Style Icon!

Friday was the release of Harry Potter and the deathly hallows Part 2 and no-one was more excited than myself! Ten years building up to the most fantastic ending in history!
Not only do we say goodbye to Harry and Ron but it is a sad farewell to the feisty Hermione Granger :(

Over the past ten years, Emma Watson has blossomed into a beautiful young woman and a true style icon!

Below, see how Emma has developed from an incredibly cute, frizzy haired child star into an international model and Hollywood Star.

Somehow I don't think we've seen the last of Emma Watson,

I’m going to do what I want to do. I’m going to be who I really am. I’m going to figure out what that is.

Ombre?

Ombre hair is the style that appears as though it has been dip dyed. Usually starting dark at the top fading to lighter towards the ends. Many people have said that it look like your roots have grown out...I love it!!

Ever since I was about eight, I've longed to be a blondie.
After growing my hair to the length I'd always wanted and having it a rich dark brown, I decided to finally take the plunge and dye it blonde. After several trips to the hairdressers and hundreds of pounds, I had achieved blonde hair...and had it cut into a bob (The biggest mistake ive made!).

With various different events coming up and only being a part time barmaid, I could not afford the upkeep of blonde hair, not to mention that I didnt suit it and everyday have been asked "Oh why have you dyed your hair?" and "I preferred it before" So yesterday I decided enough was enough, I had to just dye it back to dark brown.

I love Alexa Chung's hair, that dip dyed look. So I searched on how to do it myself at home. I came across another blogger "Anna Saccone" who had tried the ombre style on her own hair and made a tutorial.
I followed the tutorial and although the effect isnt as fantastic as it would be if id visited the hairdressers, I actually quite like it!! Not bad for £2.

Going Viral

As part of my latest uni project, I had to create an online marketing campaign for the online retailer Missguided.
This entailed: An e-shot design, a social media platform, a way to get people online and using the site and a viral video.

Styling Brief

As part of my uni course, we were put in to groups :/ and assigned a styling brief by stylist Martine Alexander.
The concept behind the project was road trip, this could be taken anyway...Obviously we ruled out the very obvious American ideas of checked shirts, denim shorts and a desert. Not only was it obvious but also pretty impossible to find a desert in Preston.
We chose to go down the route of vintage style with a modern twist, the modern twist being that we would use an androgynous female to play the part of the male. The clothes were sourced from the groups wardrobes and the majority of the styling is good.
I especially like the styling of Rosie, the androgynous female we used.
The feminine model, Lauren has sinced worked for me on various other projects.

My favourite image

Glamour models in fashion magazines?

It seems that all the controversy about size zero may be coming to an end!!

Lads mag favourite Kelly Brook has become the new face of Gina. Kelly's sultry poses were reminiscent of her various glamour shoots and the post production gave a pin up girl spin on the photos.
The new Gina adverts stick out like a sore thumb in Vogue, sandwiched between all the stick thin yet beautiful models. However, it was refreshing to see a glamour model being pictured for what she was wearing and not her assets!

The hybrid between glamour and fashion doesn't end with Kelly Brook and Gina. American model Kate Upton, famed for her Sports Illustrated shoot and her modelling with Victoria's Secret is now the face of Guess. Her precarious and flirty poses fit in perfectly with the brand image and she really does look beautiful.

Although it's a pleasant change to see the curvy models within fashion magazines, I can't help but think that super models do the job much better.

Shocking Anorexia

After doing a fashion based report for a uni project, I came across the disturbing world of anorexia and couldn't quite believe what I was reading and seeing.
The emaciated bodies with gaunt faces are enough to send a shiver down your spine. I couldn't work out how people could strive towards looking like this. I then came across pro anorexia websites. Theses websites offer tips to readers on how to become anorexic. One website even personified Anorexia and called it Ana.
One of the most disturbing comments I came across on the website was;
Does Ana want you to go into the fridge? No she does not, It's about time you paid attention to what Ana wants and not what you want
The personification of Anorexia immediatley puts a person in charge of your body and not yourself.

Winkle Pickers

Winkle Pickers, Gentlemans slippers or velvet slippers?

After purchasing the pair in the top right corner I was pretty excited. However, after wearing them only three times I have started to feel slightly pretentious wearing them with their regal embellishment!
Infact, after rooting them out again before, I chose to wear them around the house with a robe.
